PARISH NEWS

THANK YOU FROM FR. PIUS
I wish to thank you my dear parishioners, for the beautiful farewell you bid me and for your generous gifts. My thanks also to Karen Wilson, teachers, staff, students and parents for the lovely Mass, presentation, wishes and gifts. I am overwhelmed with your love and care and thank you for everything: your support in my ministry while I was there, for celebrating my farewell Masses with the school community and parish community with such love, for making my final Mass as parish priest special and for even making sure that a convoy came along to Corio when I left Hoppers Crossing. You have given me many treasured memories.  THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

CONGRATULATIONS DEACON CHARLES
Congratulations Deacon Charles on reaching 5 years of being a Deacon on Friday, 27 October 2017. We thank you for assisting Fr. Pius over the past years in guiding us in our faith journey and we know that you will continue to do the same with Fr. Vincent. We thank you for your total commitment and the many hours you put in each week to ensure that so many needs of our church are met: inspiring and faith filled homilies, baptism formation and ceremonies, attending various meetings - to name a few.  We thank Kathleen and your family for supporting you in this vital role you play in our parish. We take delight in seeing your smiling face in church and hearing the homilies you deliver with such conviction, helping us to be routed in our faith in trying times as the present. We thank you and assure you of our prayers for abundant blessings for you and your family.

FINAL CELEBRATIONS OF THE JUBILEE CROSS
This Cross was blessed in February this year by Archbishop Hart and was in our parish on the weekend of 16/17 September. Rediscover flyers with more information regarding the celebrations are available in the foyer for parishioners to pick up. At a time when newsfeeds are littered with stories of division and disunity, Melbourne's Christians are gearing up for a huge event bringing thousands of people together. They may be diverse in style and tradition, but Melbourne's churches are united by their love for Jesus and their desire to release God's love and hope across the city! To be held on Saturday 28 October from 2pm to 7pm at Federation Square and St Paul's Cathedral, Rediscover is timed to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Victoria. The packed schedule includes hymn singing with international and culturally diverse choirs singing in their native tongues, a multi-denominational gathering of prayer for Melbourne, a rally of thousands of Christians carrying the cross down Swanston St., a hope-filled message from the Reverend Tim Costello, and a vibrant, high-energy expression of praise and worship. Federation Square will have marquees and interactive encounters, activities and entertainment – all focussed around the theme of unity, celebration and hope. The event will be an amazing outpouring of love for our city that's suitable for people of all ages and musical preferences!

Our prayer group will be there all afternoon, so there will be no prayer meeting on the day.

WORKSHOP
The Year of Youth is an invitation for the whole church in Australia to celebrate young people and create new opportunities to meet the young heart of the Church. This workshop day for parish priests, pastoral associates and parish leaders will explore how your parish can use the Year of Youth to "open new horizons for spreading joy". If you would like to be involved in a leadership capacity to help and develop the youth of our parish, contact Royden on 0426 071 375.

GOOD SAMARITAN MINISTRY
The Good Samaritan Ministry assists parishioners in need during difficult times e.g. bereavement, unemployment and loneliness. Good Samaritan ministry offers a confidential service by volunteers drawn mainly from the parish community. The ministry provides an opportunity to serve others and put faith into action, and the chance to grow and learn in relating to others. Our next meeting is from 7:30pm to 8:30pm on Thursday October 26 in the Community Centre. Your commitment to the ministry is just 2 hours a fortnight.
