DEVOTIONAL PRAYER FOR JULY
PRAYER FOR PEACE & JUSTICE IN UKRAINE

God of peace and justice, who change the hardened heart and break the power of violence, we entrust the people of Ukraine to you.

Protect them in this time of peril; let them know not death but life; not slavery but freedom.

You are Father of all; we are brothers and sisters.

Give us the strength to live that truth in love, choosing peace not war.

1^st Reading (Gen 18:1-10)
A reading from the book of Genesis.
The Lord appeared to Abraham at the Oak of Mamre while he was sitting by the entrance of the tent during the hottest part of the day. He looked up, and there he saw three men standing near him. As soon as he saw them he ran from the entrance of the tent to meet them, and bowed to the ground. ‘My lord,’ he said ‘I beg you, if I find favour with you, kindly do not pass your servant by. A little water shall be brought; you shall wash your feet and lie down under the tree. Let me fetch a little bread and you shall refresh yourselves before going further. That is why you have come in your servant’s direction.’ They replied, ‘Do as you say.’ Abraham hastened to the tent to find Sarah.’ ‘Hurry,’ he said ‘knead three bushels of flour and make loaves.’ Then running to the cattle Abraham took a fine and tender calf and gave it to the servant, who hurried to prepare it. A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Colossians.
It makes me happy to suffer for you, as I am suffering now, and in my own body to do what I can to make up all that has still to be undergone by Christ for the sake of his body, the Church. I became the servant of the Church when God made me responsible for delivering God’s message to you, the message which was a mystery hidden for generations and centuries and has now been revealed to his saints. It was God’s purpose to reveal it to them and to show all the rich glory of this mystery to pagans. The mystery is Christ among you, your hope of glory: this is the Christ we proclaim, this is the wisdom in which we thoroughly train everyone and instruct everyone, to make them all perfect in Christ.

WORLD DAY FOR GRANDPARENTS AND THE ELDERLY - SUNDAY 24^TH JULY
To mark this special occasion Father will give a Special Blessing to grandparents and the elderly at all the weekend Masses. All parishioners, especially grandparents and the elderly are invited for morning tea after the Sunday 10:30am Mass, hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary.

What do you read there?’ He replied, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself.’ ‘You have answered right,’ said Jesus ‘do this and life is yours.’ But the man was anxious to justify himself and said to Jesus, ‘And who is my neighbour?’ Jesus replied, ‘A man was once on his way down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of brigands; they took all he had, beat him and then made off, leaving him half dead. Now a priest happened to be travelling down the same road, but when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. In the same way a Levite who came to the place saw him, and passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan traveller who came upon him was moved with compassion when he saw him. CATHOLIC GIFTS STALL
Last weekend some of the Young Adults held a stall after all weekend masses to raise money for the evangelising mission of Net Ministries Australia. They raised over $3,000. Thank you for your generosity and support for evangelisation of youth in Australia.

PAULINE BOOKS & MEDIA will be at our parish next weekend 16/17 July to make Catholic books and resources available for purchase in the Church Hall. Last Sunday marked the beginning of the Second Assembly of the Plenary Council in Sydney, where Members from around Australia are gathering with our bishops to pray, discern and vote on a number of topics of significance to the future of the Church in Australia. PRAYER FOR PEACE & JUSTICE IN UKRAINE

God of peace and justice, who change the hardened heart and break the power of violence, we entrust the people of Ukraine to you.

Protect them in this time of peril; let them know not death but life; not slavery but freedom.

You are Father of all; we are brothers and sisters.

Give us the strength to live that truth in love, choosing peace not war.

We welcome into our Church community Harper Manic and Zion Rocha who are to be baptised this Sunday. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the love of Parents, Godparents, family and friends, we pray that these children will lead lives full of happiness, faith and love.

CATHOLIC GIFTS STALL
This weekend, some of our young adults will be holding a stall after each mass, selling handmade Catholic products such as mugs, rosaries, t-shirts and stickers to raise money for the evangelising mission of NET Ministries Australia. Rhea D’Souza will speak briefly about the stall at all weekend masses. Your support is greatly appreciated.

THANK YOU to all the volunteers for your assistance to make the 10.30am Parish Feast Mass last weekend a wonderful success. GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
Work has commenced on writing the Parish history. As part of that process we are holding a “down memory lane’’ afternoon tea on Sunday 10^th July 2022 at 2:30pm in the meeting room off the church hall. DEVOTIONAL PRAYER FOR JUNE
Prayer to St. Peter the Apostle

O Holy Apostle, because you are the Rock upon which Almighty God has built his church; obtain for me I pray you, lively faith, firm hope and burning love; complete detachment from myself, contempt of the world, patience in adversity, humility in prosperity, recollection in prayer, purity of heart, a right intention in all my works, diligence in fulfilling the duties of my state of life, constancy in my resolutions, resignation to the will of God and perseverance in the grace of God even unto death; that so, by means of your intercession and your glorious merits, I may be made worthy to appear before the chief and eternal Shepherd of souls, Jesus Christ, Who with the Father and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns for ever. Amen

These are the ones who, living in the flesh, planted the Church with their blood; they drank the chalice of the Lord and became the friends of God.

1^st Reading (Acts 12:1-11)
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
King Herod started persecuting certain members of the Church. He beheaded James the brother of John, and when he saw that this pleased the Jews he decided to arrest Peter as well. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread, and he put Peter in prison, assigning four squads of four soldiers each to guard him in turns. Herod meant to try Peter in public after the end of Passover week. All the time Peter was under guard the Church prayed to God for him unremittingly. On the night before Herod was to try him, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, fastened with double chains, while guards kept watch at the main entrance to the prison. Then suddenly the angel of the Lord stood there, and the cell was filled with light. He tapped Peter on the side and woke him. ‘Get up!’ he said ‘Hurry!’ – and the chains fell from his hands. The angel then said, ‘Put on your belt and sandals.’ After he had done this, the angel next said, ‘Wrap your cloak round you and follow me.’ Peter followed him, but had no idea that what the angel did was all happening in reality; he thought he was seeing a vision. They passed through two guard posts one after the other, and reached the iron gate leading to the city. This opened of its own accord; they went through it and had walked the whole length of one street when suddenly the angel left him. It was only then that Peter came to himself. ‘Now I know it is all true’ he said. ‘The Lord really did send his angel and has saved me from Herod and from all that the Jewish people were so certain would happen to me.’

My life is already being poured away as a libation, and the time has come for me to be gone. NEW ROLAND DIGITAL PIANO FOR CHOIR LOFT
The parish has procured a new digital piano for use by our choirs in the church. It has been set up and placed in the choir loft. The piano was purchased after consultation with the Music Ministry. Special thanks to Matthew Reuter and Michelle Dela Pena for their coordination in the purchase of the piano.

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION
There will be a third Collection this weekend for Peter’s Pence – the annual collection for the Holy Father. A brief explanation of the origins of the Peter’s Pence Collection is given below:

In 1871, Pope Pius IX formalized the practice of lay members of Church and "other persons of good will" – providing financial support directly to the Roman See. In general, contributions go to the local parish or diocese, who then provide contributions to support higher level offices. Collections for Peter's Pence go directly to Rome. Pius IX approved this practice in the encyclical Saepe Venerabilis, issued on 5 August 1871. The money collected is today used by the pope for philanthropic purposes. At present, this collection is taken each year on the Sunday closest to 29 June, the Solemnity of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, according to the Roman Church.

It was late afternoon when the Twelve came to him and said, ‘Send the people away, and they can go to the villages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.’ He replied, ‘Give them something to eat yourselves.’ But they said, ‘We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for all these people’ For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, ‘Get them to sit down in parties of about fifty.’ They did so and made them all sit down. Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing over them; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd. They all ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps remaining were collected they filled twelve baskets.

Prayer to the Holy TRINITY

Glory be to the Father, who by His almighty power and love created me, making me in the image and likeness of God.

Glory be to the Son, who by His Precious Blood delivered me from hell, and opened for me the gates of heaven.

Glory be to the Holy Spirit, who has sanctified me in the sacrament of Baptism, and continues to sanctify me by the graces I receive daily from His bounty.

Glory be to the three adorable Persons of the Holy Trinity, now and forever. Amen.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, by faith we are judged righteous and at peace with God, since it is by faith and through Jesus that we have entered this state of grace in which we can boast about looking forward to God’s glory. But that is not all we can boast about; we can boast about our sufferings. These sufferings bring patience, as we know, and patience brings perseverance, and perseverance brings hope, and this hope is not deceptive, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given us.

1^st Reading (Acts 2:1-11)
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
When Pentecost day came round, the Apostles had all met in one room, when suddenly they heard what sounded like a powerful wind from heaven, the noise of which filled the entire house in which they were sitting; and something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak foreign languages as the Spirit gave them the gift of speech. Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven, and at this sound they all assembled, each one bewildered to hear these men speaking his own language. They were amazed and astonished. ‘Surely’ they said ‘all these men speaking are Galileans? How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language? 2^nd Reading (Rom 8:8-17)
A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Romans.
People who are interested only in unspiritual things can never be pleasing to God. Your interests, however, are not in the unspiritual, but in the spiritual, since the Spirit of God has made his home in you. In fact, unless you possessed the Spirit of Christ you would not belong to him. Though your body may be dead it is because of sin, but if Christ is in you then your spirit is life itself because you have been justified; and if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then he who raised Jesus from the dead will give life to your own mortal bodies through his Spirit living in you. So, then, my brothers, there is no necessity for us to obey our unspiritual selves or to live unspiritual lives. If you do live in that way, you are doomed to die; but if by the Spirit you put an end to the misdeeds of the body you will live. Everyone moved by the Spirit is a son of God. The spirit you received is not the spirit of slaves bringing fear into your lives again; it is the spirit of sons, and it makes us cry out, ‘Abba, Father!’ The Spirit himself and our spirit bear united witness that we are children of God. And if we are children we are heirs as well: heirs of God and coheirs with Christ, sharing his sufferings so as to share his glory.

A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
In my earlier work, Theophilus, I dealt with everything Jesus had done and taught from the beginning until the day he gave his instructions to the apostles he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, and was taken up to heaven. He had shown himself alive to them after his Passion by many demonstrations: for forty days he had continued to appear to them and tell them about the kingdom of God. When he had been at table with them, he had told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for what the Father had promised. ‘It is’ he had said ‘what you have heard me speak about: John baptised with water but you, not many days from now, will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.’ Now having met together, they asked him, ‘Lord, has the time come? To celebrate Pentecost Sunday, our Parish will hold our annual all-night Vigil with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 11:00pm on Saturday 4^th June 2022 ending with 5:00am Mass on Sunday 5^th June 2022. The Vigil will include Praise & Worship from SPYA, Footsteps and KNK, infilling of the Holy Spirit, prayers of the Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, talk by Dcn. The money raised supports our local communities through scholarships for students at MacKillop and Thomas Carr Colleges and other Catholic ministries overseas. A reading from the book of the Apocalypse.
In the spirit, the angel took me to the top of an enormous high mountain and showed me Jerusalem, the holy city, coming down from God out of heaven. It had all the radiant glory of God and glittered like some precious jewel of crystal-clear diamond. The walls of it were of a great height, and had twelve gates; at each of the twelve gates there was an angel, and over the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel; on the east there were three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. The city walls stood on twelve foundation stones, each one of which bore the name of one of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. PENTECOST VIGIL
To celebrate Pentecost Sunday, our Parish will hold our annual all-night Vigil with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 11:00pm on Saturday 4^th June 2022 ending with 5:00am Mass on Sunday 5^th June 2022. The Vigil will include Praise & Worship from SPYA, Footsteps and KNK, in filling of the Holy Spirit, prayers of the Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, talk by Dcn. Royden D’Souza and conclude with Eucharistic Mass at 5:00am. All are invited to attend.

God of peace and justice, who change the hardened heart and break the power of violence, we entrust the people of Ukraine to you.

1^st Reading (Acts 14:21-27)
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
Paul and Barnabas went back through Lystra and Iconium to Antioch. They put fresh heart into the disciples, encouraging them to persevere in the faith. ‘We all have to experience many hardships’ they said ‘before we enter the kingdom of God.’ In each of these churches they appointed elders, and with prayer and fasting they commended them to the Lord in whom they had come to believe. They passed through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia. Then after proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia and from there sailed for Antioch, where they had originally been commended to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. On their arrival they assembled the church and gave an account of all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith to the pagans.

SCHOOL OF DISCIPLESHIP – 2022
The 2022 session of the Joint Parishes of St Peter’s & St James initiative - School of Discipleship will commence from Sunday 15^th May at 6:15pm at St Peter’s Community Centre, Hoppers Crossing. This is a faith outreach program aimed to teach members more about our Catholic faith with three purposes – to learn it, live it and share it. The school has been successfully running for the last 6 consecutive years in Hoppers Crossing and members have testified to growing both spiritually and personally. All are welcome to join. Parents and carers: the eSafety Commissioner provides free webinars for parents and carers. These live webinars give parents and carers the knowledge, skills and tools to support their children to have safe online experiences. MASS TO COMMEMORATE THOSE WHO HAVE DIED DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC

In recognition of the significant impact of COVID in our families and communities, Archbishop Peter Comensoli will celebrate a memorial Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday 22^nd May for all those who have died during the COVID pandemic (including but not limited to those who have died from COVID). This Mass will be offered for all the departed who could not be mourned properly or whose lives could not be celebrated suitably because of pandemic restrictions.
