PARISH NEWS

CHURCH REFURBISHMENT PROJECT
Unfortunately there have been further delays in completion of our church refurbishment project on account of issues found in the main structure of the foyer. This has resulted in new steel structure being designed and installed. Most major issues have now been resolved and the project is progressing well. The next major works relate to roof replacement which is expected to be undertaken in the next two weeks. The Builder and Architect has advised us of a new completion date of end August 2018 subject to normal weather conditions. We are sorry for the inconvenience this delay is causing and thank you for your patience. If there are any further changes to the timetable we will keep parishioners updated.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER – THE NATIVITY OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST
“Behold, one is coming after me; I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.” – ACTS 13:25

Stewardship is a lifestyle, it’s not a program or a process. It’s how we are called to live our lives twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week! It challenges us to live “God-centered” lives, not “self-centered” lives. Reflect on your daily activities, do you do them for the glory of God or for the glory of your own name?

STEWARDSHIP CORNER – 11TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive good or evil, according to what he has done in the body.”...….                2 Corinthians 5:10
We are all accountable for the gifts God has given us – our time, our talent and our treasure. Each of us is accountable not only for our own life but for the lives of others as well. One day God will ask each of us what did we do with the gifts we were given. How will you respond?

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION
There will be a third Collection next weekend June 23/24 for Peter’s Pence – the annual collection for the Holy Father. A brief explanation of the origins of the Peter’s Pence Collection is given below:
In 1871, Pope Pius IX formalized the practice of lay members of Church and "other persons of good will" – providing financial support directly to the Roman See. In general, contributions go to the local parish or diocese, who then provide contributions to support higher level offices. Collections for Peter's Pence go directly to Rome. Pius IX approved this practice in the encyclical Saepe Venerabilis, issued on 5 August 1871. The money collected is today used by the pope for philanthropic purposes. At present, this collection is taken each year on the Sunday closest to 29 June, the Solemnity of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, according to the Roman Church.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER – 10TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.” – MARK 3:25
Do your parish ministries complement each other or do they compete against each other? Is your parish “one Body of Christ” or a bunch of little, separate ministries controlled by human ego? The goal of all parish ministries is to bring people to Christ. All of our parish work should be for the glory of God’s name, not our own name.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER – FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI
“Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them and they all drank from it.” …………………MARK 14:23
Jesus, the perfect steward, gave thanks, just before He gave Himself to us completely for our salvation. He offers us the chance to drink from His cup. In the Eucharist, we meet Christ personally and, if we listen to Him, we know what drinking from His cup means – our own sacrifice – giving up some of our time, talent and treasure to do His work on earth.

PARISH NEWS

MOTHER’S DAY BLESSING
May God’s many blessings be yours forever more. And may you know you’re valued and loved by the Lord, especially on this day that we have set aside to show our appreciation to the Mothers in our lives.

The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honour of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral – a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby's body. The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God's creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation. What on God's good earth is more glorious than this; to be a mother?
Joszef Cardinal Mindszenty

“I am the good shepherd...and I lay down my life for the sheep…and they will heed my voice.” – John 10:14-16

When you pray, do you only ask Jesus for the things that you want? Do you ever ask Him what He wants from you? How do you listen for His response? Usually, the answer is in “quiet whispers”, so take time every day, in silence, to actively listen for His response.

GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY, 22nd APRIL
Today is the World Day of Vocations. Pope Francis tells us: We will never discover the special, personal calling that God has in mind for us if we remain enclosed in ourselves, in our usual way of doing things… We could lose the chance to dream big and to play our part in the unique and original story that God wants to write with us.

God calls young people from our local communities to serve as priests and consecrated religious. We all have a role to play in helping young people to ‘dream big’ and hear this call. What can I do to foster vocations from this community?

Pope Francis – Message for 2018 World Day of Vocations
‘It will not fill our hearts if we keep standing by the window with the excuse of waiting for the right time, without accepting this very day the risk of making a decision. Vocation is today! The Christian mission is now! Each one of us is called to become a witness of the Lord, here and now.

‘We should not wait to be perfect in order to respond with our generous “yes”, nor be fearful of our limitations and sins, but instead open our hearts to the voice of the Lord.’

without accepting this very day the risk of making a decision. Vocation is today! The Christian mission is now! Each one of us is called to become a witness of the Lord, here and now.

‘We should not wait to be perfect in order to respond with our generous “yes”, nor be fearful of our limitations and sins, but instead open our hearts to the voice of the Lord.’

A prayer request
You might know of a young person in the parish, in your family or an acquaintance whom you think would make a good priest or religious. Why not pray for them by name on a regular basis? Carry them with you ‘spiritually’ to Mass on Sunday. Sometimes the Lord uses us as his instruments to encourage vocations.

MANY THANKS to the Nguyen Family for donating a TV and VCR following our request last weekend. The TV was much appreciated by the family who pass on their sincere thanks for the same. God Bless You.

GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY 2018
Next Sunday is the World Day of Vocations. In his Letter for this Day, Pope Francis reminds us:

‘God comes silently and discreetly, without imposing on our freedom. Thus it can happen that his voice is drowned out by the many worries and concerns that fill our minds and hearts.’

Let us all offer one prayer this week for the young people that we know. Let us pray that they will hear the voice of the Good Shepherd amidst the daily events of their lives.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER – APRIL 15, 2018 - 3RD SUNDAY OF EASTER
“Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ But they were startled and frightened…” – LUKE 24:36-37

Throughout the day we have many opportunities to “see the face of Jesus” in others and to “be the face of Jesus” to others. Do we take that opportunity to provide “peace” to those we encounter or are we afraid of what others will think of us and do nothing? Pray for the strength to live a “God-centered” life and not a “self-centered” life.
