Past Friday, 31st May, 2019, eight altar servers from St.Peter's Parish were awarded the Guild of St.Stephen Medal at a special service at St.Patrick's Cathedral, East Melbourne for their service as altar ministers at our church masses.

"The Guild of Saint Stephen is established to foster a deeper awareness and understanding of the liturgy by ministers of the altar and to improve understanding of and participation in the liturgy by parishes and communities."

"Members of the Guild have Saint Stephen as their patron saint. St. Stephen was a deacon in the church. He assisted the apostles by his service to God’s people and was the first Christian to be martyred for the faith."

Many church servers from around the Melbourne Archdiocese attended the service last Friday. From St.Peters parish in attendance were:

Shalini Chinnabathuni
Aiden D'Souza
Megan D'Souza
Joel Joe Joseph
Jayden Mohan
Elie Saliba
Jeslin Shaji
Emelda Sibi

Fr. Vincent John congratulates on behalf of our whole community, our altar servers who attended this special service and also wishes to extend his deepest gratitude and encouragement to all the youth in our parish who enthusiastically give of their free time to serve at the altar, for the glory of God and also for the benefit of our whole parish.

It is with great joy that we congratulated two new parishioners Amrita D'Souza and Samitha De Vas Gunawardena into our church as Neophyte Catholics last Easter Saturday, 20th April 2019, after partaking in the parish's 9 month RCIA program and receiving the sacraments of initiation; Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.

Amrita and Sam were both exuberant about being able to share in and contribute to the life of our church. On behalf of parish priest Fr. Vincent John CMI and Deacon Charles English we welcome Amrita and Sam into our community and wish you both many blessings as you continue to grow in unison with us in your new found faith.

This is a faith outreach program aimed to teach members more about our Catholic faith with three purposes – to learn it, live it and share it. The school has been successfully running for the past 2 consecutive years in our parish and members have testified to growing both spiritually and personally. We are currently in our fifth week and the response has been good. The first five weeks are a come and see whether you would like to join. We meet every Sunday at 6:15pm in the community centre. All are welcome. For further information contact Anita D’Souza on 0411 772 320 or Sharon D’Silva on 0430 099 654.

WORLD ROSARY DAY – SUNDAY 7 OCTOBER
Countries around the world are joining to hold Rosary Rallies to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Together we are calling upon God through the powerful intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary. The World Rosary started on 15 August (Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) with a ‘54-day Novena’ that will continue until the feast of the Holy Rosary on 7 October. Each nation has been asked to pray for its own intentions on the day. The Australian intentions are family, rekindling of faith and continued Godly protection.

SPECIAL HEALING MASS

STEWARDSHIP CORNER – MAY 6, 2018, 6th SUNDAY            OF EASTER

“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” – John 15:12-13

Do you love Jesus? Do you consider Him your friend? Jesus says that if we love Him we would be willing to offer whatever we have to Him, not because we want praise and glory, but simply because we love Him. Does your giving seem mechanical out of obligation or do you share freely out of love?

Movie Night

A big Thank You to all those who attended our movie night on April 20, 2018. We collected $320 which as we have advised will go towards Young Adults activities. Thank you to the parishioner who donated a crate of Pepsi cans. Your generosity is very much appreciated. Our next movie night is scheduled for June 11 which is a public holiday. We hope you all can be there and support us in our ministry. If you would like to join, help or donate please call Angelique on 0420388231. Young Adults Group.

CHURCH REFURBISHMENT

Unfortunately our refurbishment program has been delayed as the Contractor has to safely detach electric cables in the roof of the entrance foyer which was unable to be identified before. This has necessitated the service of Powercor, the earliest of which was available only on May 4, 2018. Work was temporarily stopped but has recommenced. There is expected to be a 4 to 6 week delay but we are working with the Contractor to get the work completed with minimal delay. We will keep parishioners posted on further developments. Thank you for your patience and cooperation in this regard. - Project Team.
