Quite aptly on the day of the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, at 10:00am on Saturday, 8th September 2018, our very own Royden D'souza celebrated together with 3 other candidates, Andrew Choi, Trac Nguyen and Nathan Rawlins, at St Patrick's Cathedral, East Melbourne, his ordination into the permanent Deaconate of the Roman Catholic Church.

Presided over by Melbourne's new archbishop, the Most Rev. Peter Comensoli DD, and assisted by Dcn Charles English, amongst others, a full turn out of family, friends and well wishers from as far as Vietnam, Korea and USA came to enjoy a wonderful ordination and mass, celebrated on a beautiful cloudless sunny spring morning with temperatures around 18°C.

Of the many priests who came to witness the ordination, our new deacons were also greeted by our own Fr. Vincent John CMI, Fr. Pius Kodakkathanath VC, Fr. Gregory Bourke as well as many parishioners who came to enjoy the celebration.

The St.Peter's Parish community wish to join together with our priests, in congratulating Dcn. Royden on his ordination and wishing him and his family a joyous and fruitful faith filled ministry in the many years ahead.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER – MAY 6, 2018, 6th SUNDAY            OF EASTER

“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” – John 15:12-13

Do you love Jesus? Do you consider Him your friend? Jesus says that if we love Him we would be willing to offer whatever we have to Him, not because we want praise and glory, but simply because we love Him. Does your giving seem mechanical out of obligation or do you share freely out of love?

Movie Night

A big Thank You to all those who attended our movie night on April 20, 2018. We collected $320 which as we have advised will go towards Young Adults activities. Thank you to the parishioner who donated a crate of Pepsi cans. Your generosity is very much appreciated. Our next movie night is scheduled for June 11 which is a public holiday. We hope you all can be there and support us in our ministry. If you would like to join, help or donate please call Angelique on 0420388231. Young Adults Group.

CHURCH REFURBISHMENT

Unfortunately our refurbishment program has been delayed as the Contractor has to safely detach electric cables in the roof of the entrance foyer which was unable to be identified before. This has necessitated the service of Powercor, the earliest of which was available only on May 4, 2018. Work was temporarily stopped but has recommenced. There is expected to be a 4 to 6 week delay but we are working with the Contractor to get the work completed with minimal delay. We will keep parishioners posted on further developments. Thank you for your patience and cooperation in this regard. - Project Team.

ST PETERS CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP

Saturday, 8th July our parish prayer group will celebrate its 22nd Anniversary with a Thanksgiving Mass and fellowship. Please join in to celebrate this occasion with Praise & Worship at 11.30am followed by Mass and a light lunch in the hall thereafter.  All are invited.

ARCHBISHOP’S GOLDEN JUBILEE OF PRIESTLY ORDINATION Saturday 22nd July, 11:00am at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 1 Cathedral Place, East Melbourne

Everyone is invited to and will be welcome at this special Mass of Thanksgiving on the 50th anniversary of the Archbishop’s priestly ordination, followed by light refreshments at the Central Hall, 18 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

Please note that there will be no Mass at our parish that morning (22nd July), only a Communion service at 9:15am, as Fr. Pius is concelebrating in the Cathedral and is required to be there before 10:30am.

 EUTHANASIA & ASSISTED SUICIDE

Dear Parishioners,

As we have advised you during the last few weeks, there is an upcoming bill to be presented to the Victoria Parliament on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide. Further details are available in the church foyer.

Next week we are going to be seeking support for a petition to be signed by as many parishioners as possible addressed to our local MP as follows:

We, the members of the St. Peter Apostle Mission Parish, 38 Guinane Ave, Hoppers Crossing VIC 3029, wish to raise with you our concerns regarding assisted suicide and euthanasia.

We understand that assisted suicide and euthanasia will be the subject of legislation later this year and we want to express, in the strongest terms possible, our reservations and concerns.

We do not believe that euthanasia or assisted suicides are appropriate ways of addressing the needs of people in our community at the end of life. Our laws have always held that killing a person or helping them to suicide is not acceptable.

We also believe that to do so would create significant risk of harm to vulnerable members of our community and we do not see any need to change these laws.

Instead, we ask you and all elected representatives in Victoria to focus more on ensuring that every Victorian has access to the best of care at the end of life. No Victorian should suffer at the end of life. We have the ability to achieve this and we think it incumbent on society to ensure that every person has equal and guaranteed access to the best of care when they need it.

We urge you not to support any Euthanasia or Assisted Suicide Bill.

Volunteers will be in the church hall after each mass THIS WEEKEND requesting you to sign the above petition. We ask you to kindly spare some time after mass to sign the petition, evidencing your support to this important cause.

Thanking you in advance,

Fr. Pius Kodakkathanath.
