Mission Statement

At St. Peter Apostle Mission Parish we welcome all people into our community and invite them to join us on our faith journey.

In the Eucharist, we come together in all our diversity, to worship and proclaim the Good News of the unconditional love of God for all His people.

Through Baptism, we are called and gifted to live out our ministry of service where we strive to see Jesus in all those we meet.

Entrance Antiphon

My eyes are ever fixed on the Lord, for he releases my feet from the snare.

O look at me and be merciful, for I am wretched and alone.

Gospel Acclamation

Glory to you, Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ! Repent says the Lord;

the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Glory to you, Word of God,

Lord Jesus Christ!

Gospel (Lk 13:1-9)

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

Some people arrived and told Jesus about the Galileans whose

blood Pilate had mingled with that of their sacrifices. At this he said

to them, ‘Do you suppose these Galileans who suffered like that were

greater sinners than any other Galileans? They were not, I tell you.

No; but unless you repent you will all perish as they did. Or those

eighteen on whom the tower at Siloam fell and killed them? Do you

suppose that they were more guilty than all the other people living in

Jerusalem? They were not, I tell you. No; but unless you repent you

will all perish as they did.’ He told this parable: ‘A man had a fig tree

planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it but found

none. He said to the man who looked after the vineyard, “Look here,

for three years now I have been coming to look for fruit on this fig

tree and finding none. Cut it down: why should it be taking up the

ground?” “Sir,” the man replied “leave it one more year and give me

time to dig round it and manure it: it may bear fruit next year; if not,

then you can cut it down.”’

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Communion Antiphon

The sparrow even finds a home, the swallow finds a nest wherein to

place her young, near to the altars, Lord of hosts, my King, my God!

How happy they who dwell in your house! For ever they are praising you.

COMMUNITY

CHURCH IMPROVEMENTS

Our parish church has had some improvements recently. These

include the painted blinds on the western windows and the repair

and automation of the outside blinds. Two automatic opening

windows at the top of the light well have been reactivated and

a further two shall be repaired. The Lady’s Chapel has been glazed

and is awaiting some further art work. This will be supporting the

Biblical theme of nets and fish. Four tables have been purchased,

two for the sanctuary with deep drawers for missals and lectionaries

and two for the back of the church for the Offertory Gifts and for the

newsletters.

In the near future a new lectern will be constructed. This will have a

sandstone base with a toughened frosted glass top. It will be able to

accommodate our Book of the Gospels.

The Reconciliation Room will be replastered with some further rendering.

The Altar Servers Room will also have a cupboard for sacred vessels

and the like for easier altar preparation.

One of the former confessionals will be renovated and become a small

devotional prayer room with an icon of the future St Mary of the Cross

(Bl. Mary MacKillop).

Thank you for your generous financial support that has made these

improvements possible.

PROCLAMATION

Growing In Faith

LOGOS/BIBLE – the Gospel of Luke is our focus at present,

every Tuesday at 7:30pm at St Peter’s, for parishioners of St James

& St Peter’s.  Bring your bible and join us as we journey through the

Gospel of our Sunday masses this year.  From Easter, for 6-8 weeks,

we shall return to the Prophets’ writings in the bible, plus a brief look at

Acts of the Apostles.  Why not join us regularly or from time to time –

it’s a great intention for Lent, to grow in faith!

CALLED TO BE CATHOLIC – a small group meets every 3-4 weeks,

Thursdays at 7:30pm, and we have been looking at the documents of

Vatican II Council (1960s). Next meeting we shall learn more of the

meaning of Lent and how we can experience it more deeply.

If you are interested, call Bernie Farrugia (9749 6470 - St Peter’s)

or Judy Porter (St James’ – 0411425246 [office hours]).  Come join

us as we continue to explore our Catholic identity.
