Mission Statement

At St. Peter Apostle Mission Parish we welcome all people into our community and invite them to join us on our faith journey.

In the Eucharist, we come together in all our diversity, to worship and proclaim the Good News of the unconditional love of God for all His people.

Through Baptism, we are called and gifted to live out our ministry of service where we strive to see Jesus in all those we meet.

Entrance Antiphon

Lord, you are just, and the judgements you make are right. Show

mercy when you judge me, your servant.

1st Reading (Wis 9:13-18)

A reading from the book of Wisdom.

Responsorial Psalm

In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge.

2nd Reading (Philemon 9-10,12-17)

A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Philemonians.

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, alleluia!  Let your face shine on your servant, and teach me

your laws.  Alleluia!

Gospel (Lk 14:25-33)

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.

Great crowds accompanied Jesus on his way and he turned and

spoke to them. If any man comes to me without hating his father,

mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes and his own life too, he

cannot be my disciple. Anyone who does not carry his cross and

come after me cannot be my disciple. And indeed, which of you here,

intending to build a tower, would not first sit down and work out the

cost to see if he had enough to complete it? Otherwise, if he laid

the foundation and then found himself unable to finish the work, the

onlookers would all start making fun of him and saying, “Here is a

man who started to build and was unable to finish.” Or again,

what king marching to war against another king would not first sit

down and consider whether with ten thousand men he could

stand up to the other who advanced against him with twenty

thousand? If not, then while the other king was still a long way off,

he would send envoys to sue for peace. So in the same way, none

of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all his possessions.’

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Communion Antiphon

Like a deer that longs for running streams, my soul longs for you, my

God. My soul is thirsting for the living God.

Next Week’s Reading

Ex 32:7-11, 13-14;   1 Tim 1:12-17;   Lk 15:1-32

COMMUNITY

FAREWELL TO FR. GREG

Our Parish has become quite expert in saying Farewell to our Priests

over the years. Now it is time to say "Farewell" and "Thank You" to our

Parish Priest, Fr Greg Bourke. We have had 7 years of Wonderful

Leadership with Fr. Greg, and he is going to be sadly missed by all

of us.

To show him how much he is loved and cared for, we will be taking

donations to give him something special. Over the weekends of

11/12th Sept and 18/19th Sept there will be a 3rd collection at each

Mass to enable everyone who wishes to contribute to Father's Farewell

gift. Donations may be put in an envelope marked "Fr. Greg's donation"

or loose. We will have a farewell "do" for Father sometime closer to

the time of his leaving us.

PRIESTHOOD ORDINATIONS

A reminder that four men will be ordained priests for our Archdiocese

in St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Saturday September 11th at 10:00am.

All are invited to join in this celebration and Deacon Aurelio

Fragapane’s first Mass on Sunday September 12th at 3:00pm in

Our Lady's Church, 49 Nicholson St., East Brunswick. A rosary will

commence beforehand at 2:30pm.

PARISH HISTORY

We are endeavouring to put together a comprehensive History of

St Peters. At our last Parish Council gathering, all groups were

asked to document their history and submit it to the Parish Office

by no later than Nov 11th 2010. If your group wasn't in attendance at

the last meeting please take note - We would also like some

personal memories of the Parish from Parishioners who have

been here for a long time. Or, if you were in a group that no longer

exists and it was an important part of our Parish we would greatly

appreciate your input. Also photos that we can copy to add to the

history would be great. Any queries please phone Bernice on

9749 2812.

CHILD PROTECTION SUNDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 2010 at the

conclusion of Child Protection Week.  The theme for this year

provide a safe environment. Joining with others in this awareness

raising campaign.  We proclaim to our parish and to society at

large our determination to protect young people and to stop child

abuse wherever it occurs

is your opportunity to help change the culture of death to a

culture of life. Visit www.40daysforlife.com/melbourne or call
