RCIA
For Adults wishing to become Catholics, our parish holds a course
called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA.
Classes run from July through to Easter the following year, and
take place on Wednesdays at 7:30pm in our parish offices.
The RCIA course is open for people who have never had a Christian
baptism, or who come from other Christian churches and wish to receive
Holy Communion and be Confirmed in the Catholic Church. The RCIA course
takes place in 4 stages.
-
Enquiry: (Pre-Catechumenate) Candidates gradually acquaint themselves with the
Christian faith. They are encouraged to ask questions about their belief in God
and the meaning it has in their own lives.
- Formation: (Catechumenate) Catechumens familiarise themselves with the ministries
of Jesus Christ in the four Gospels. They become acquainted with the sacraments of
the Catholic Church and its teachings.
- Preparation: (Scrutinies) The Scrutinies prepare the Catechumens, now known as the
Elect, for receiving the holy sacraments. The Elect become Catholics at Easter with the celebration
of Baptism and/or Confirmation.
- Mystagogy: (Faith Developement) The newly initiated Neophytes meet and reflect on the mysteries of
the risen Christ, and also reflect on their own faith journey. The period of Mystagogy concludes at Pentecost.
