There is asbestos removal to be undertaken on Saturday, February 17 on which day Morning Mass at 9:15am will be at the Community Centre and there will be NO 6:00PM EVENING MASS on Saturday, 17 February as a safety precaution for our parishioners. Masses on Sunday February 18 will be held as usual.

Further details on these will be provided next weekend. The Piety Store will be closed during construction which is expected to finish in the third week of May 2018. The above will cause inconveniences during the construction period but we do hope parishioners will understand and cooperate with us for this very important project of the Parish.

11TH FEBRUARY 2018 – 6TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“Brothers and sisters, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” - 1 Corinthians 10:31

Do a quick check of your priorities. Where does God rank in that list? If He’s not first, you have some work to do. Putting God first in everything helps us from putting other “gods” (like our pride and ego, money and possessions to name a few) before God. Before making a decision, ask yourself am I doing this for the glory of God or for the glory of me?

4TH FEBRUARY 2018 - 5TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
"Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. He told them, "Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come.“ Mark 1:35, 38
In today's Gospel reading we see a perfect example of stewardship. Jesus gives His time to do all that God wishes - healing the sick and preaching. But before He begins, Jesus makes time to be alone with God in prayer. It is through prayer, spending time with God, that we find the strength to do what He wishes us to do. Be sure to find time every day to be with God.

JANUARY 21, 2018, 3RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
"
Follow me and I will make you fishers of men - Mark 1:17  Jesus' call to "Follow me" is a call to all Christians! The call is in the here and now, in our present circumstances, not when we think we are "ready" or have everything in order. Good stewardship of our God-given gifts means that things aren't always going to go according to our schedule and that God has a much better plan in store for each of us.

SICK LIST
A reminder to parishioners that names for the sick list will be deleted at the end of each month.  Please contact the parish office at the end of each month if you wish any names to be repeated. We thank you for your cooperation I this matter.

CATHOLIC VOCATIONS OFFICE: 2018 CAMINO IN SPAIN AND PORTUGAL
Monday 25 June (arrive Madrid) to Friday 20 July (depart Lisbon) In 2018, Catholic Vocations Melbourne is excited to offer Catholic young men of Melbourne the opportunity to walk the ancient pilgrimage route of the Camino de Santiago to the tomb of St James the Apostle. The 500km trek on foot will provide pilgrims with the opportunity to step out of their ordinary lives and to dedicate some time to asking some of life's big questions. Each day pilgrims will have the opportunity for Mass, confession, spiritual direction and prayer. After reaching Santiago de Compostela, the pilgrimage will conclude with two days of prayer and relaxation at the beautiful shrine of Our Lady of Fatima. Your Pilgrimage Chaplains are Fr Nicholas Pearce and Fr Joel Peart from the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Archbishop Denis Hart fully supports this Camino. 'As the Church in Australia enters into the Year of Youth and Vocations, I am pleased to support this initiative, and encourage the young men of Melbourne to take up the challenge and join the Camino 2018 team.' The Pilgrimage is four weeks in total and departs after the last week of university semester one exams, returning in time for week one, semester two.

Costs: Flights Pilgrims will organise their own flights, arriving in Madrid and departing Lisbon (allow approx. $2000).  Daily pilgrimage costs Pilgrims should budget for $50AUD for each day of walking on pilgrimage (allow approx. $950). This budget is based on the experience of previous pilgrims and includes simple accommodation and a mixture of basic pilgrim meals and self-catering.

Pre- and post-accommodation/meals/transfers One night Madrid, two nights Santiago, two nights Fatima. Transfers from Madrid to Burgos, Santiago to Fatima and Fatima to Lisbon. Allow approximately $1000+.  However, there are 12 sponsored places available where these costs will be met by a number of generous benefactors. These places are open to Catholic young men who reside in the Archdiocese of Melbourne and who are between the ages of 18 and 35 at the time of the pilgrimage. Applications for these dozen places are now open.

PARISH NEWS

NEW PARISH SECRETARY
Call to minister to her family has required our present secretary Josephine Thomas to move to Brisbane in February 2018.  The Thomas family have been our parishioners since April 2005 and Josephine our secretary since January 2007; it is with sadness that we will bid her and the Thomas family goodbye in February, but join them in joyful anticipation of all the blessings that await them.  We pray that our Lord Jesus will go before them and bless them to continue their ministry that he has prepared.

Our parish is now blessed with yet another faithful parishioner as Parish Secretary.  We congratulate Zelia D'Mello on her successful interview and welcome her on board to minister to our Parish in her new role.  Mario and Zelia D'Mello joined our parish when they moved to Melbourne from New Zealand in 2010 and over the years have become an integral part of our parish, participating in various ministries, especially with their ever willing service to our Music Ministry. We pray many blessings as Zelia takes up this new role.

FEAST OF THE HOLY INNOCENTS, MARTYRS - THURSDAY 28TH DECEMBER
The Church celebrates the memory of the young children of Bethlehem who were put to death by Herod, who sought to kill Jesus. These innocent victims bear witness to Christ in a world which would not receive Him. All parents are invited to bring their children and babies to the 8:30am Mass on this Feast day for a special blessing.

CHRISTMAS FAMILY MASS AND CAROLS
We would encourage the Children of our Parish (who will be at the family Mass on Christmas Eve) to dress as Angels, Kings, Shepherds, etc. to join in our human Nativity Scene during the Carols. Children need to be at the Church at about 5:50pm if they are going to participate. For info, ring Bernice on 9749 2812.

ARCHBISHOP'S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
His Grace, the Archbishop of Melbourne, Denis Hart, sends Christmas blessings, and invites one and all to view and enjoy his 2017 Christmas message.
